Dana Kaproff

Dana Kaproff is a master storyteller, who believes in the extraordinary power of music to transform the storytelling experience. He is passionate about sharing with filmmakers his perspectives, informed by years of experience, on how a great score can shape a film, provide structure and cohesion, help define characters, develop relationships, and ensure that the emotional impact of the narrative is realized to its full potential. “Music can be that essential voice words and images alone cannot fully express” he notes, “and I love to develop that voice, weave it into the tapestry of the film, and add an important dimension to the filmmaker’s vision.”

An award winning film composer, songwriter, record producer and lecturer, he has scored over a hundred movies, series, mini-series, and documentaries. His film credits include assignments for HBO, Showtime, CBS, NBC, ABC, FOX, PBS, Paramount, Universal and Warner Bros., and demonstrate his versatility in many genres: drama, crime, romance, war, comedy, horror, westerns, action-adventure, fantasy, and non-fiction. An Academy member himself for over 35 years, he has collaborated with such Hollywood luminaries as Sam Fuller, Samuel Goldwyn Jr., Academy Award winners Walter Mirisch, Dick Richards, and Peter Werner, Golden Globe winners Brian Dennehy and Charles Jarrott, and Emmy Award winners Eric Laneuville, James Frawley, William Link and Richard Levinson, to name a few. He maintains an active role in the recording industry, with his hit bossa nova song Passo A Passo, featuring co-writer Bianca Rossini, recently topping a million hits on Spotify and iTunes. Other album credits reflect his range and diversity, including Grammy winners Pat Benatar and Shirley Bassey, World Music artist Somi, jazz legend Blue Mitchell, and his multiple soundtrack releases. His work in the advertising world includes music and sound design for Apple, Forex, Kraft, International Fragrance and Flavors, Kyocera, and BMW.

Dana Kaproff

The son of a prominent LA studio musician, he started gaining insights into the film and music business at an early age, attending countless recording sessions at places like Capitol Records, Paramount and MGM Studios, and continued as a young professional, working along side legends (and close family friends) Elmer Bernstein, Jerry Goldsmith, and John Barry. These insights, which have broadened immensely over the course of a long and prolific career, inform both his music and his work ethic. His professionalism, ease contributing within a collaborative context, and ability to “get” what filmmakers want, stems from these deep roots in the Hollywood film industry. Now living in New York City, his artistry continues to evolve and flourish, and to each new creative challenge he accepts, he brings a fresh approach coupled with an expertise that reflects those deep roots and years of experience.
